Museums & GalleriesDublin has many museums and galleries. Those who are interested in culture, art and heritage have a wide choice of what to see. We provide you with a short info about each museum as well as the opening hours and admission charges. Bank of Ireland Arts Centre2 College Green, "200 years of history"-exhibition in the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre. The interactive museum reflects the Irish history and the history of banking. The adjoining College Green building is one of the architectural landmarks of Georgian Dublin and meets the requirements of its former role as the Irish Houses of Parliaments. This edifice encloses tapestries from the 18th century and over a thousand Irish crystal chandeliers from 1765.

Chester Beatty Library [ www.cbl.ie ]Dublin Castle The Chester Beatty Library is the Irish museum of the year 2000 and European museum of the year 2002. It was created by Sir Alfred Chester Beatty and is situated in the gardens of Dublin Castle. It is both, an art museum and a library with an outstanding range of Early Christian, Islamic and East Asian manuscripts and paintings. Opening Hours:

Custom House Visitors CentreCustom House Quay Established in 1791, the Custom House is one of Dublin's finest heritage buildings. The building has been destructed during the War of Independence in 1921. The Visitor Centre houses and exhibition dealing with the founder Gandon, the 1921 fire, the restoration and other historical facts. Opening Hours:

DESIGNyard12 Essex St East DESIGNyard is an outlet for contemporary applied arts. It also houses a jewellery gallery, showing Irish and European pieces. The crafts council is a good opportunity to buy an Irish souvenir. Opening Hours:
Dublin Brewing Company [ www.dublinbrewing.com ]141-146 North King Street Smithfield Dublin 7 Email: info@dublinbrewing.com Founded in 1996, the Dublin Brewing Company is located in the city centre. The first brewed beer was Beckett's Gold followed by D'Arcy's Dublin Stout, Revolution Ale and Maeve's Crystal Wheat. Visitors may find out how the beer is originally hand made. Dublin City Gallery The Hugh LaneCharlemont House The Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane houses a collection of contemporary and modern art. It includes almost 2000 pieces of artwork by leading national and international artists. Guinness Storehouse [ www.guinnessstorehouse.com ]St. James's Gate The Guinness Storehouse gives you the opportunity to discover the story behind the famous Irish beer. A must see place for any visit to the capital. 250 years of brewing history - from Arthur Guinness and the first shipment of his beer in 1769 to the modern brewing methods. It offers a programme of exhibition, education, outreach and activities. The centre promotes an appreciation of James Joyce as a most significant literary figure of the 20th century. Opening Hours:
Groups (minimum 8 people): Advance booking for groups is essential James Joyce TowerSandycove The James Joyce Tower belongs to the series of Martello towers, which were built to contain an invasion by Napoleon. Located eight miles south of Dublin it is now a museum dedicated to the work and life of James Joyce. The tower was the setting of Joyce's great novel "Ulysses". The National Maritim MuseumHaigh Terrace The National Maritim Museum is located in the former Mariners Church in Dun Laoghaire. It combines a number of historical models and tells the story of Robert Halpin, who captained the ship laying the first transatlantic telegraph cable in 1866. Admission is free National Museum of Archaeology and HistoryKildare Street The National Museum of Archaeology and History displays all archaeological objects found in Ireland. It houses over 2,000,000 artefacts ranging from 7000 BC and the late medieval period. Visitors may admire a fine collection of prehistoric gold artefacts, metalwork from the Celtic Iron Age and a range of medieval ecclesiastical objects and jewellery. Opening Hours:

It houses the National Library of Ireland's photographic collection. The collection comprises almost 300,000 historical and contemporary photographs. Admission is free National Print Museum [ www.iol.ie/~npmuseum/ ]Beggars Bush Officially opened in 1996, the National Print Museum displays the history and future development of Ireland's printing craft. It has an 18 min audio-visual show documenting the old skills of printing. Opening Hours:
National Transport Museum [ www.nationaltransportmuseum.org ]Heritage Depot Established by the Transport Museum Society and run by a group of volunteers, the National Transport Museum houses Ireland's only comprehensive collection of public and commercial transport. It is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Ireland's transport heritage. There are a lot of exhibits, such as bus, tram and horse drawn commercials. Opening Hours:
Groups: National Wax MuseumGranby Row The National Wax Museum combines fantasy and reality. The main section of the exhibition is referring to the historical and cultural development of Ireland. Here you will find figures such as James Joyce and friends. Children will have fun in finding the magical lamp and the genie in the World of Fairytale and Fantasy. The brave may spend their time in the Chamber of Horrors. Those who are interested in Michael Jackson, Madonna and Elvis Presley should have a look in the Hall of Megastars. Opening Hours:

The Fry Model RailwayMalahide Castle Demesne The Fry Model Railway houses beautifully engineered models of Irish trains. Waterways Visitor Centre [ www.waterwaysireland.org ]Grand Canal Quay The Waterways Visitor Centre is located in the southeast of Dublin.
